Life Insurance for the High School Graduate

Graduating

Life insurance was the last thing on anyone’s mind as my daughter recently graduated from high school. Most people wouldn’t think a high school graduate would need a life insurance policy. At this point in their young lives, they normally do not have assets or an income to protect. My daughter just competed in our State Soccer Tournament and now wants to enjoy her summer vacation. I am trying to push her to complete writing her graduation party thank you cards and getting chores around the house done. I guess our priorities are different.

If your child is heading off to college, there may be college loans that are pending. If your child should pass away while in college, the loans may become due immediately. Having a life insurance policy for your child could potentially provide coverage for the costs of the loans.

Perhaps your child is not going to college and is heading into the workforce. Chances are they will not be eligible for a group life insurance policy immediately. Once they start working, they may need to take out a loan for a car payment. You, as the parent, will most likely be a co-signer on the loan and in the event of his/her death would be responsible for the repayment of the loan.

You would not need to purchase a large policy to cover these loans or final expenses. Since recent high school graduates are usually around 18 years old and in excellent health, the cost should be minimal.

Our website has a life insurance calculator which can provide an estimate of how much life insurance coverage you will need to cover expenses. Once you figure out how much insurance you need, you can obtain a free online quote. You may see that a life insurance policy for your high school graduate can cost only pennies a day. I wish college loan costs were only pennies a day!
