Finally in Your New House? Time to Buy Term Life Insurance
Did you know owning term life insurance becomes critical as soon as you finally buy that first home? Have you ever talked to someone who finally got that “bug” to purchase their first home? They can’t help but scour the internet and weekly listings looking for new properties that are up for sale. Every waking free moment when they’re not at work goes to scheduling time to see houses and take the plunge. It’s practically an addiction.
But you never forget that very first day when you’re finally sitting in your first house. All of the boxes are laying around in different rooms, and you’re completely exhausted from moving in. This very image burns in my mind whenever I think about our first house. We ordered chinese take-out and propped the TV up on a set of unpacked boxes. Cracked a couple of beers and just sat there…. glowing as we looked at the empty white walls thinking, my goodness, we’ve got years of painting to do!
Then a little fear starts to creep back in you because you’re thinking, I never want to lose this house. I still laugh to this day because my wife keeps telling me we’re going to move. I remind her that if we don’t, just let the new owners know that the house comes with a 50 year old man who is going to live in their basement, because I’m not leaving.
I can’t imagine how much pain it would be for my wife, to know that we were starting a life together, finally having bought our first home, then I passed away. Term life insurance is the perfect way to protect that home for your spouse should there be a tragic loss. Because, not only would she lose me, but she may lose our first home because she couldn’t afford to pay the mortgage on her own. It’s not a pretty thought, but we never know when disaster will strike and owning term life insurance can take this risk off the table.
So as we look into the new year, and as you sit in your first home, look around and bask in the glow of finally making that plunge.
