New Year, New You with Life Insurance
Have you noticed the trend of TV commercials in December and January are all trending towards a healthy lifestyle? I am seeing commercials for gym memberships, fitness videos, weight loss plans, weight loss pills, expensive clothes racks (i.e. treadmills, ellipticals etc.). I am also seeing numerous commercials for dating sites. I guess the media executives think we are overweight, out of shape, and need to find our perfect mate.
Perhaps you are looking into one of these options for your New Year’s resolution of getting healthy. A healthy lifestyle is a wonderful thing to have all year long. A healthier lifestyle means lower life insurance rates. Have you put off purchasing life insurance because you think it costs too much? Let us take a closer look at life insurance costs and the costs associated with a healthier lifestyle.
A 40-year old female who takes cholesterol or blood pressure medication can obtain a $500,000 20 year term policy for less than $35 per month.
A piece of fitness equipment can run up to $1,000. Videos for high intensity training are costing approximately $150 per series. Weight loss plans vary; a regular monthly meeting group (without food purchase) can be approximately $50 per month whereas weight loss plans, where you purchase their food, can cost hundreds of dollars per month. Weight loss pills can cost $40 per month. Gym memberships can range in price from $29 into the hundreds of dollars per month. Online dating sites can cost up to $50 per month.
I am not trying to deter anyone from spending money for a healthier lifestyle. Personally, I have a gym membership, have been on a weight loss plan, and have purchased Tae Bo videos back in the day. When you look at the cost of a term life insurance policy (which you will have for 20 years or possibly more) vs. the cost of a piece exercise equipment that you may only use for a few months, which has the better long term value?
