Life Insurance–Because You Love Them
If you love your family, you’ll get life insurance. I know this sounds harsh and I’m not saying you don’t love your family if you don’t have life insurance, but think of this - in the span of 40 months my husband and I have lost both of our mothers and my husband’s father. Talk about a devastating few years. Our mom’s both had just enough life insurance to cover their funeral expenses, but my father-in-law’s policy lapsed 2 months before he passed away (suddenly mind you), but he did have an appointment with his broker last month to discuss options – only a month too late. All have been laid to rest, but there was some added stress regarding the small amount or lack of life insurance.
My husband and I do have life insurance coverage, but it’s through my employer and although portable should I leave, I’m not certain that we have the right amount of coverage for the right cost. It’s easy because the premium is taken through payroll deduction so I don’t think of it as an added expense and come to think of it, I don’t think of it at all and therein lies the problem. Shouldn’t this be on my radar given the industry I’m in and the losses we’ve suffered over the past 3 years? All I can say is it will be…
The reason for my blog is this, you’re going to be more devastated than you can imagine when you lose a loved one. I didn’t realize this until my mom passed away. Don’t add to your family’s burden by not having life insurance. Having to worry about money while mourning your loss will only add to their grief and cause confusion, hard feelings and perhaps disagreements.
