Term Life Insurance and Your Graduate
Spring has sprung, or so the calendar says, and what a great time to talk about term life insurance with your son or daughter that may be graduating. With all the hopes, dreams and plans being made, term life insurance is a great fit for your graduate’s future!
As you discuss goals, colleges, job prospects and anything else you might be covering now is a great time to introduce term life insurance to your graduate to help them with their future plans. Here are 5 talking points and thoughts that may help:
1. The younger you are, the cheaper the cost! With each year that goes by, the cost of insurance will increase. Term insurance is a very reasonably priced product, especially for young people! You’ll be amazed at how low the quotes can be.
2. As a child graduates and plans for the future, wouldn’t it be great for them to get a head start and purchase a term life insurance policy? Do they have dreams of owning a home someday? Getting married and raising a family? Why not get started now with a term life insurance policy and as their needs change, the amount and type of coverage can be re-evaluated to make sure it continues to meet the needs it was purchased for.
3. Especially when we are young, we don’t think about passing away and I think most of us believe we will live for a very long time, and I hope that’s the case! The thing is no one knows what the future holds and things including your health can change in an instant. Get term life insurance protection early so you know you are prepared just in case.
4. Graduates have a wealth of education they take with them right? What’s also important for parents is to share all they have learned about financial issues, budgets and planning. This is a great time to start talking to graduates about all of your life experiences when it comes to renting vs owning a home, financial planning and saving as well as protecting all the assets you accumulate along the way. This should include life insurance.
As I always say the key to life insurance is having life insurance. Many people may talk about term life insurance and shop for quotes but may not apply. It can wait, right? No, it really can’t!
So if your child is graduating this spring, why not gather some quotes, have them apply and see if they are approved. Then they can continue on with their plans for the future knowing they’ve already made a great decision to protect themselves and their future interests.
