5 Ways to Break Out of the Average Zone
There's nothing wrong with being average if it makes you comfortable and happy. If you want to stop being average and do bigger and better things, you will have to rise to the occasion. Here are five things that you can do to stop being average.
1. Reduce time-wasting activities
If you want to accomplish something big, you need to make the time to do it. If you spend hours watching TV, playing on your phone, and surfing the web, you are using valuable time that you could be using to move forward in your goals. In order to stop being average you need to make better use of your time. Instead of watching four hours of television each evening only watch two and use the other two to do something you've been thinking about.
2. Wake up 30 minutes earlier
If you wake up 30 minutes before you normally would, you have time to get a little bit more done. You can workout, go for a run, or catch up on reading. Waking up before anyone else in your house gives you time with your thoughts before the busy routine of the day kicks in. If you sleep in until the moment you absolutely have to wake up and rush to get ready for work or school, you are wasting time. By waking up early you can get more done.
3. Learn new things
You don't need to go back to school to learn new things. You can take free online courses, read books, or read online. Every time you wonder something make it an opportunity to research and learn. Reading will expose you to new ideas and inspire you. Read fiction, non-fiction, and keep up with what's happening around the world by reading the news. The more you learn the more opinions you will be to have. Your conversation skills will improve because you'll have interesting things to talk about that you didn't before.
4. Do more than is expected
If you want to stand out, do more than is asked of you. If your boss asks you to clean all the tables and counters, do that and then refill the ketchup and sugar. If you're writing a paper and need to find two quotes to support your thesis, find three. Never stand around looking bored or like you have nothing to do. If you aren't sure what to do, ask someone instead of choosing to do nothing. If someone else complains about having to do something, you should do it without making a scene. You will get noticed for going above and beyond.
5. Get out of your comfort zone
When was the last time you tried something new? If you don't want to be average, you need to push yourself out of your comfort zone and try new things. You can do the same things day after day and stay in a comfortable routine, but you won't experience anything new. If you hike the same trails every weekend, find new ones to enjoy. Never say "no" to a new experience even if it scares you.
There's nothing wrong with being average, but if you want to be more and do more, you can do it by making changes to how you live. Break out of your comfort zone and separate yourself from everyone else.
