Man’s Best Exercise Equipment - A Life Insurance Connection

Life Insurance

We tend to talk about wellness and life insurance quite a bit around here. In general, they do go hand in hand – at least if you want to get the best life insurance rates. But PivotCare Team members really LIVE wellness. We have team members that religiously go to the gym, a few that are nuts about organic home gardening and our CEO takes part in Ironman events and marathons! They all seem to have a ‘thing’ they do to stay fit and healthy. I never had a ‘thing’ though until recently.

First of all, I have never been the poster child for fitness. I’m not inactive, but I have never ‘worked out’ or gone to the gym. When I was in high school and college, I played a sport every season but didn’t even ‘work out’. I either had practice or a game everyday. That was enough for me. Those who know me well also know I love food, and usually the bad stuff. You only live once so enjoy it (with moderation of course…).

As I got older things to keep me active became scarce. I still can’t bring myself to go to a gym though. My thoughts are why would I want to go somewhere and pay to pretend to do things just to be active? I’d rather do things for real to be active! I’d rather be outside, being in new places or trying new activities. Still, I needed something to motivate me. That’s why I got a dog.

I’ve always wanted my own dog. It’s a great responsibility to own one so I had to wait until the time was right (meaning: until my wife said it was ok). I was told I couldn’t get one until our youngest was out of diapers. One Wednesday last winter that day came – and that Friday we adopted Trina from a local shelter. Hey, I waited an extra day to be sure…

Trina is my gym, my trainer, my motivator… and hopefully my ticket to a few extra years with my family thanks to her tireless effort to keep me active (and, boy do I mean tireless!). At the very least, she ensures I walk a couple miles a day (rain, snow or shine). Typically on the weekends we head out to hiking areas we have not yet been to.

The point I’m trying to make is that you do not have to go the traditional gym route to have better health. Find what you think will truly motivate you as well as be there to kick you in the butt when you need a push. I know I need an extra kick, so I got one that will bite my butt to get it going!
