8 Ways to Live a Happier Life!

In a fast-paced, modern day world it can be easy to swerve off the path of happiness and onto one filled with stress, anxiety and depression. With deadlines, hectic schedules and tight budgets, it’s understandable that the modern day woman may struggle to keep a smile on her face. However there are ways that one can learn to appreciate the smaller things in life and bring about a state of happiness – at least for part of the day!

1. Be early

If you always seem to be racing against the clock, try leaving your house 5 or 10 minutes earlier. That extra few minutes can make a huge difference on your stress levels.

2. Give yourself ‘me’ time

Set aside time each day to do things purely for you. Perhaps a bubble bath in the evening, or half an hour to sit and read a book; anything that you want to do but feel like you don’t normally have for. Make time.

3. Learn how to say ‘no’

If you don’t want to do things the simple answer is – don’t do them. Stop letting people decide what you should be doing and learn that it is OK to say no when people give you invites you’d rather decline. Spend that time doing something you would rather be doing.

4. Focus your energy on one project at a time

Don’t try to juggle several things at once; take your time over each thing you do and make sure it is done properly.

5. Let go of your past

If there are times in your life that have caused you pain or unhappiness, try to let them go. Learn from them and move on – holding onto old grudges and feelings of pain or anger will only detract from your current happiness and not provide you with any closure.

6. Eat breakfast

Having a meal in the morning is important as it ups your sugar levels and allows your brain to function properly. Without it you may feel more irritable and stressed. A balanced diet is also important – if you feel well you are more likely to be happy.

7. Write a diary/journal

Having a place to vent your feelings, even if it is only to yourself, can be a great way to relieve stress and negative thoughts. Once the thoughts are down on paper you may find that you think of them less, and can focus on happier thoughts.

8. Do good things for others

Even if it is just something small such as holding a door open for a stranger, doing good deeds for other people can bring you great happiness.

Life is precious and for some much shorter than expected, so enjoy it and get the most out of every day.
